Jim Kirk is the Group Publisher and Executive Editor at Crain’s Chicago Business, a position he has held since October 2018. With nearly three decades of experience in journalism and media, Jim has been a driving force in leading growth and transformation across several prominent news organizations. Before his current role, he was Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Tribune Publishing and Editor-in-Chief at the Los Angeles Times, where he also served as Interim Executive Editor. Jim’s leadership journey includes serving as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief at the Chicago Sun-Times, where he oversaw significant editorial and operational changes. Earlier in his career, he held editorial leadership roles at Bloomberg and the Chicago Tribune, including Associate Managing Editor for Financial News. Throughout his career, Jim has been known for his ability to build strong editorial teams, drive innovation, and develop impactful content strategies that resonate with audiences. He earned a BA from Illinois State University and lives in the Chicago area with his wife Michelle and has three children – Evan, Meghan and Anna.
